Old, poorly maintained pipelines pose an extreme danger

Pipelines are crucial to our economic growth and prosperity, but, like other parts of American infrastructure, they are aging.
A November 15, 2010 Houston Chronicle article reported on the condition of Texas's aging pipline infrastructure and found that: o Old pipeline are more dangerous than new ones o Old pipeline protective coatings can actually corrode the metal o Old pipeline welding techniques were inferior and can cause joint failure Pipeline owners and operators are responsible for maintaining their pipelines to avoid ruptures and explosions, which can cause terrible devastation to human life and property. This is particularly important because pipelines are all around us--many people think of pipelines as being located in remote lands, but in reality they are also found in densely-populated areas.
