Painter Law Firm files lawsuit against neurosurgeon

This week Painter Law Firm filed a medical malpractice lawsuit, on behalf of Danette Johnson, against surgeon Peter Shedden, M.D., who practices in Houston and The Woodlands.

The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Shedden performed a spinal fusion surgery on too many vertebrae, and that he relied only a discogram in selecting the areas where he operated. Since that surgery, Mrs. Johnson has been unable to return to work as a labor and delivery nurse because of her extreme pain.

The 4th edition of the text 'Browner: Skeletal Trauma' reports that many surgeons believe that discograms lead to inappropriate surgery and that surgery is warranted only if there is disk herniation causing nerve root pain.
